As Valentines Day approaches and we reflect on those we love, I can’t help but think about how harsh our world is today. I adore my family and I will shout it from the rooftops but if someone cuts in front of me at Starbucks, I just don’t feel the need to post it for the world to see.
Why do we feel the need for the whole world to hear our opinions these days? I watched the Super Bowl half time show and yes, the first thing I thought was Adam Levine’s tank and jacket didn’t match. Did I feel the need to run to my twitter account and tell the world what I thought – no! I just looked at my husband and said, note to self, if and when I hire a stylist let’s not choose his. Then we went back to eating sweet chili Doritos. Seriously, those things are like crack.
I love social media for so many reasons but lately, it leaves me with an empty feeling inside. Influencers, child influencers, products I think I need, tips for better skin care, gorgeous living rooms to wish for and vacation villas I can’t afford for even one night – all just flash before me constantly reminding me of what I want, what I wish for, why don’t I look like that, etc. It’s so overwhelming to me as an adult, how are our children doing this?
Do they just not know any better? They don’t remember a time when Instagram or Snapchat wasn’t a daily habit. If one of my kids isn’t invited somewhere why do they need to know? Why do they need to know every move their friends make at all hours of the day and night? Ava has a friend from school who moved to London and she can see on SnapChat where she is at all times – WHY????? Maybe it’s like evolution – like how we developed thumbs, maybe one day generations from now, humans will develop a thick skin to not give a crap.
Do you find yourself voicing your opinion more on social media? Do you think it’s a good idea or not? How do you feel about our kids’ future in this 24/7 world we live in?
