Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I can’t believe its January 2019. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and life has begun to settle down and get back to “normal.” That’s such a subjective word isn’t it?? Is there even a need for that word anymore – I mean what is normal??
January 17, 2002 my “normal” changed forever when our son Jack was born. Suddenly I was responsible for someone other than myself and wow was that a big change. I was 36 when Jack was born, I spent a lifetime on my own and then, poof, someone was going to call me Mom. I wish I could say it was an easy transition, but it really wasn’t 😊 Jack didn’t like to sleep; then after about a week, he decided he was going to projectile vomit. He is very lucky he was just about the cutest baby in the world, as I had visions of selling him on the black market! I still live in fear that my old friend the very funny comedian, Mitch Fatel will play the voicemail I left him, hysterical crying that I want to give the baby back! Turns out, Jack had something called pyloric stenosis and needed surgery to fix a valve in his stomach that was the cause of the projectile vomiting. After that, it was smooth sailing…he still hates to sleep, though.
Flash forward to 2019 and Jack will be getting his drivers license next week and we have started looking at colleges. He towers over me and I still can’t believe how deep his voice is. I have to yell at him to shave – what??? When I look at the young man he has grown into, I can’t believe how time has flown by. As cliché as it is, I blinked and here we are.
As we get ready to celebrate 17, I can’t help but look back with pride that I didn’t sell him when he was just a few weeks old! I was so scared that I would fail as a parent. Now, as I get ready to give him the keys to my car, I realize I am waaaaaay more frightened of him behind the wheel of a car! Truthfully, I know that I didn’t fail at all. I raised a kind, loving, smart, handsome and responsible young man. I couldn’t be prouder of him. So, as January 17th approaches, I will reach up and hug my hairy baby knowing that I might be far from “normal” but I raised damn good kids!
