How to Get Rid of Static in Kids Hair

How to Get Rid of Static in Kids Hair

Just imagine: You spent an hour bathing your child and washing their hair in between play. Then another 30 minutes drying and styling their hair – let’s not even talk about the temper tantrums – only for the flyaways to poke out and static to take charge (cue sad trombone). It happens too many times for parents, so what can we do to get rid of static electricity hair?

Static in Hair: Why it Happens
According to Healthline, static is the result of an imbalance of too many positive or negative charges in or on an object. The charges have to leave somewhere, and usually the way this happens can be in the form of a “shock” sensation. And just like the rest of your body, your hair can build up electrical charges too. For example, if you wear a hat in the winter, electrons can build up on the hat. When you take it off, the negative electrons could go with your hat. This will make your hair positively charged, causing strands of hair to stand up because your now-positive hairs are repelling each other (remember playing with magnets as kids?).

How to Get Rid of Static in Hair
General rule: Your hair is negatively charged. That means cosmetic chemists have found a static hair fix by making hair products that are positively charged. These can neutralize each other to create harmony for your kids hair. That means their hairstyle will finally stay in place! But before you can start shopping for anti static hair products, be on the lookout for drying ingredients that could damage your kids hair, like sulfates, parabens, and especially alcohol. Many parents and children have their own hair problems, but don’t let static hair add to your stress when there are easy solutions!
