Summer Hair Care Tips for Teens: How to Maintain your Hair at Home

Skip Hot Tools

You don’t need hot tools, like a flat iron, curling wand, or blowdryer, to achieve beautiful hair! In fact, it’s better if you avoid applying more heat onto your hair, especially when you’ll be going outside where the sun will warm up your scalp already. Instead, put your hair up in a cute ponytail or braid to style. Wearing a hat will also be a big help to protect your scalp. Embrace your natural hair!

Teen Tip: Spray your hair with a heat protectant spray when you go outside for added protection against UV rays.

Use a Wide Tooth Comb Instead of a Brush

Even though brushing your hair can make it looks shinier, constant brushing can cause your hair to break and your ends to split. But you can’t not brush your hair either or else it’ll get tangled and your mom wouldn’t be very happy. Wide tooth combs are a must for detangling wet hair, but it can also be helpful for brushing too. Just be sure it detangles as you brush, especially if you have thick, straight hair.

Teen Tip: Always make sure to clean your combs and brushes regularly to avoid transferring dirt and excess oils to your clean hair.

Always Use a Hair Conditioner

Hair conditioners are a must, not only in the summer but in your hair washing routine. This is because using a conditioner helps ensure that the cuticles are smooth to the surface, which will stop tangles and allowing tangles to release easily. There are also added benefits to using conditioners, like UV protection and essential nutrients to keep your hair and scalp healthy and manageable.

Teen Tip: To ensure your hair conditioner is free of harsh chemicals, switch to a natural hair conditioner!
